Dobson’s Stormers clinched an entertaining 43-25 victory against Irish side Connacht at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday to book their place in a second consecutive United Rugby Championship final.

Despite what the scoreline might suggest, the game wasn’t easily won by the Stormers and when the home side scored a late try to ultimately seal the deal, Dobson was caught on camera showing clear sighs of relief rather than excitement that his charges managed to pull through in front of their 47,000-strong crowd.

THE STORMERS HAVE A LOVE AFFAIR WITH CAPE TOWN

Speaking during his post-match press conference, an emotional Dobson said that the Stormers’ continued success is the also the success of their faithful and unrivalled supporters across the Western Cape.

“The only reason we want to play the final in Cape Town is for the people and the revenue,” he said. “I think It’s emotional, in a nice way.

“We want to do something very special in two week’s time. I promise, we will not roll over. It will be a proper game of rugby.”

“It’s a little bit emotional, to be honest. Our big fear, like I have said, was to prove that we belong and that it wasn’t a fluke. If you said we were going to the final this season…

“We lost a few players. We gathered more Springboks – Evan [Roos] and Deon [Fourie], Marvin [Orie] became a Springbok again – so it’s an incredible feeling for us.
