Brink signed for the Bulls in December 2021 from English Premiership outfit Leicester Tigers where injuries eventually saw him being on the peripheries of the club’s starting 15.

Brink previously played for the Lions in SA

Before that, Brink had actually turned out for the Bulls Trans-Jukskei derby rivals the Lions, with the huge loose forward spending all of six years at his hometown union. It was the Bulls who then enticed the player to cross the Jukskei to wear blue instead of white and red this time around in a move that makes a lot of sense for the Tshwane outfit going into the next round of the United Rugby Championships, as well as a double round Currie Cup.

Will provide much a much needed loose forward option for the Bulls

Firstly, with both tournaments running con-currently, teams with bigger squad depth will no doubt stand more of a chance of holding their own as well as being competitive on both fronts, in the year 2022. Secondly, after the loses of the likes of Duane Vermeulen, Marco van Staden as well as Nizaam Carr, it became increasingly apparent that the Bulls would have to beef up their loose forward department. Although Carr was more a less a bit part player under Jake White, all three players were senior players who formed part of the of the union’s leadership group.

The former King Edward School (KES) scholar has also featured five times for the South Africa under-20 side in 2014. Brink also managed to make a combined 67 appearances across the various Lions team during his time in Johannesburg, before following that up with just the 19 appearances for Leicester Tigers, managing to score two tries during his time with the club.

Brink’s versatility will no doubt be a dream for White, who can utilise the player in any position between six, seven and eight. Bulls President Willem Strauss posted a picture with Brink on his official Twitter account and even he is surprised at his size, take a look:
