MATCH RECAP:

Munster held on to beat the defending champion Stormers 19-14 at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday to end a 12-year trophy drought.

Munster played all the rugby either side of Manie Libbok’s early, fortuitous intercept try. If if weren’t for the flattering scoreboard, it wouldn’t be amiss to liken the game to the visitors playing chess and the Stormers playing checkers.

Stormers played with virtually no possession in the first half and were only let off the hook in terms of not conceding due to Munster’s high enforced error rate.

The Irish side had two tries disallowed, one for a double movement and another for forward pass, but still managed to keep the Stormers at bay at secure the club a first title in 12 years.

The two finalists — Munster and the Stormers — are the only two sides to ever lift the URC trophy, after the Cape side won the maiden championship last season at the same venue.
