Lions youngster Jordan Hendrikse fractures ankle, out until 2022

Flyhalf Jordan Hendrikse fractured his right ankle during the Lions’ second round match against Scarlets in the United Rugby Championship last Friday.

Flyhalf Jordan Hendrikse fractured his right ankle during the Lions’ second round match against Scarlets in the United Rugby Championship last Friday.

The Lions lost the match 36-13.

The Lions confirmed in a statement that Hendrikse, still only 20 years old, will be traveling back to South Africa for possible surgery.

The young playmaker is expected to be out of action for at least three months.

The Lions beat Italian side Zebre 38-24 in their opening match which embarrassingly remains after two weeks the only South African victory in the tournament to date.

In next weekend’s Round 3 action the Lions against Glasgow Warriors on Saturday, 9 October at 16:05 SA time.

Meanwhile, the Lions on Monday confirmed two new faces at the union.

Prop JP Smith, who has played for the Brumbies, Stormers and Reds in Super Rugby, has signed a two-year deal while UCT Varsity Cup flyhalf James Tedder joins the Johannesburg-based union on a trial basis.
