The Stormers have maintained some remarkable form in 2023 as they claimed a bonus-point victory over London Irish on Sunday, and they now require just one more log point to secure their place in the Champions Cup playoffs.

In the end, it was a comfortable victory for the Stormers on Sunday, but at the end of the match, Ruhan Nel had a moment to forget when he dropped the ball over the tryline despite not having any defenders around him.

The Champions Cup social media handle posted the video afterwards, with the caption reading “don’t worry Ruhan, it happens to the best of us”.

In a good-natured response from Nel himself, he revealed how a fan after the game had told him that “he’ll keep the phone for a selfie because I might just drop it”.

Meanwhile, the Stormers will be without flyhalf Manie Libbok when they take on Clermont in Cape Town on Saturday, with the Springbok newcomer having been on the receiving end of a head-on-head clash this past weekend.

“Manie got a knock to his head and failed his HIA,” Stormers coach John Dobson confirmed after the game. “A joke was that he failed on the ‘language test’. But, it’s a concussion and he’ll have to go through the whole protocol now.

“We’ve got options at 10. We had trained Sacha at 15 and 12 for this game, so it was probably a mistake to put him straight on at 10 on my part,” Dobson added. “But obviously Sacha is an option at 10, so is Damian Willemse, as are Jean-Luc du Plessis and Kade Wolhuter. We’ll be fine there.”
