World Cup last chance saloon: Springbok squad heading to Argentina

The Springbok coaches have named the players heading to Argentina for one final game before the World Cup squad is revealed.

Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber named a squad of 26 players for the trip to Buenos Aires for their opening Rugby World Cup warm-up game on Saturday, 5 August, with several players who did not feature against the Pumas at Ellis Park, boarding the airplane early on Sunday morning.

Nienaber and his Springbok coaching staff have emphasised the importance of giving as many players as possible sufficient game time as they look to name the best group of 33 players for the international extravaganza on Tuesday, 8 August.

The players in the travelling contingent who were involved in the team’s 22–21 victory against the Pumas in Johannesburg earlier on Saturday are Steven Kitshoff, Vincent Koch, Trevor Nyakane (all props), Bongi Mbonambi (hooker), Marvin Orie (lock), Manie Libbok (flyhalf), Kurt-Lee Arendse (wing), Jesse Kriel, Lukhanyo Am (both centres) and Damian Willemse (utility back).
