The Springboks finished their Rugby Championships campaign with a 31-29 victory over the All Blacks on Saturday morning, much to Rassie Erasmus’ delight.

Just the previous week, it was the All Blacks who clinched a nail biting victory over the Springboks which would’ve undoubtedly left Erasmus in heartache.

Springboks bounced back against the All Blacks!

The Springboks, however, would come back the very next week, and make sure they get their revenge with their defeat of the All Blacks on Australia’s Gold Coast, a moment Erasmus clearly enjoyed wholeheartedly.

Tries from centre Damian de Allende as well as winger Makazole Mapimpi were accompanied by points from the boots of both Handre Pollard and Elton Jantjies were enough to give the Springboks the edge in an encounter that mirrored that of the previous week against the All Blacks. Still smarting from Jodie Barrett’s last minute winner from last week, Jantjies was on hand to give the New Zealanders a taste of their own medicine.

That victory over the All Blacks brought a positive conclusion to a largely underwhelming Rugby Championships campaign for the Springboks. Jacques Nienaber’s side lost their previous three games on Australian soil, with the first two being back to back losses against hosts the Wallabies. The first game a close 17-19 loss where they lost courtesy of a last minute penalty kick from flyhalf Quade Cooper.

Bounce back abilities questioned after Wallabies games

The following result saw the Wallabies trashing the Springboks which was a result that made supporters rather weary of the possibility of the squad being able to get up and fight again after a close defeat. That is something they managed to do against the All Blacks and Erasmus, who didn’t travel to Australia with the squad, could not hide how much that last minute winner meant to him.
