It’s worth remembering that this clash at Twickenham takes place just two weeks before the 2023 Rugby World Cup gets underway, and for many touring fans, it could serve as the perfect ‘curtain raiser’ before heading to France for the global showpiece.

Don’t miss the chance of witnessing one of rugby’s greatest rivalries, but this time in the UK and at home of Rugby – Twickenham.  Tickets are available via Ticketmaster and the RFU.

LIVE UPDATES: SPRINGBOKS’ ROAD TO THE RUGBY WORLD CUP

THE MATCH

It was announced in October last year that the blue-ribbon fixture of Test rugby — South Africa vs New Zealand — will have one final instalment before heading to the 2023 World Cup. This time, they won’t meet in a specific competition or tournament; instead, they will play a once-off match at Twickenham.

The Test, scheduled for Friday, 25 August, will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for fans as it will be just the seventh showdown between the bitter rivals played at a neutral venue, and indeed only the second between the Springboks and All Blacks at the ‘Home of the Rugby’. The last time being the semi final of the RWC 2015.

  • Officially, the match — just two weeks before the 2023 World Cup kicks off — has been billed as the final step in both teams’ preparation for the showpiece event in France.

THE REWARDS For the Teams and Fans

There are certainly big rewards to be had from this fixture:

  • Playing a Test of this magnitude will always live up to breakneck speeds and brutal physicality.
  • Agreeing to such an intense encounter will ensure the Springboks and All Blacks are battle hardened for the World Cup. But it will also put a marker down on where the teams are really at and which players are in form. So, ideal preparation to kick-start the RWC 2023 off with a bang.
  • For the Springboks, who have been grouped with the high-flying Ireland and Scotland in the so-called pool of death at RWC, a win in a match of this calibre would also ensure they sent a statement of intent, while it would infinitely boost their confidence and team moral.
  • An opportunity for Expats based in London / UK / Europe to watch their teams compete at one of rugby’s iconic stadiums. Tickets for the Rugby World Cup are like gold dust, so this may be the only opportunity to see their teams in 2023.
  • Watch many of the world’s leading players – including Cheslin Kolbe, Beauden Barrett, Siya Kolisi, Sam Whitelock, Faf de Klerk and Ardie Savea – set to grace the Twickenham turf.
  • A once in a generation opportunity for UK rugby fans to watch live two of the biggest rivalries and superpowers in World Rugby go head-to-head.
  • Its is very rare rugby matches at Twickenham are played in the height of the summer and evening kick offs. So will be an ideal Friday night out with family and friends.
  • 50,000 tickets have been sold already.
