The Springboks management will be sweating following confirmation that Cheslin Kolbe suffered a significant injury while on duty for his club in Japan.

According to reputable Japan-based journalist Rich Freeman, Kolbe has injured his hand pretty badly and could be sidelined for up to six weeks.

As a result of the untimely knock, Kolbe sat out Suntory’s 62-0 victory against Black Rams in Japan’s League One last weekend.

As reported by SARugbymag, Kolbe’s hand was heavily bandaged and in a brace while he shot a promotional video for Mamelodi Sundowns.

While Kolbe’s injury will come as a massive blow to Suntory Sungoliath, which are third on the table after winning six out of eight fixtures, the Springboks will hold a 43-player alignment camp between 5 and 6 March.

The Springboks’ July fixtures include two Tests against Ireland and the first international against Portugal in the Incoming Series.

The Rugby Championship, meanwhile, will see the world champions play back-to-back Tests against Australia away before successive Tests against New Zealand at home, and two Tests – one home and one away – against Argentina.
