THREE FUTURE SPRINGBOKS

Since the URC has been played on home soil, South African side’s have been undefeated. Winning all 8 matches, most convincingly too.

During this time and since the start of the competition, several players have put their hands up… These five players are on the brink of being called up by Rassie Erasmus and Jacques Nienaber.

1) VINCENT TSHITUKA (LIONS)

The elusive Lions flanker has put in countless monstrous displays.

His work rate, athleticism and skillset is right up their with the URC’s best forwards. In what has been a tough season to date for his side, he has given 110% into every single encounter. From the intensity of his carries to his diverse skillset and solid hits, Tshituka has made a name for himself this season.

He makes as many tackles as he does carries and he is incredibly quick and powerful with a silky smooth offload to boot.

Tshituka will offer the Springboks yet another explosive option at seven. A position the Boks are blessed in with the Pieter-Steph du Toit and Kwagga Smith offering world class options in the back row.

2) MANIE LIBBOK (STORMERS)

Libbok has been one of, if not, SA’s best number 10’s in this year’s URC.

With the Boks set to field a purely local based side against England later this year, there is an opportunity for a new flyhalf to emerge. Both Handre Pollard and Elton Jantjies currently play overseas.

Making way for the likes of Libbok to burst onto the scene. What he lacks in size he makes up for in flair. Libbok has an ankle breaking side step and is always a threat on the break. He also has a massive boot and offers creativity in abundance.

3) PHEPSI BUTHELEZI (SHARKS)

Buthelezi has lead from the front, both on and off in the pitch.

He makes countless strong carries and has been a stand out in the past few Currie Cup seasons while making every minute count in the URC.

The Sharks utility forward offers as much on the ball as he does without it. You can expect 110% every time he runs out onto the pitch, on attack and defense. The kind of work rate and motivation required to dawn the green and gold.
