Kolbe left the field in the first half with a suspected broken jaw and if the worst diagnosis is confirmed, the 28-year-old may play little – or no – part in the Rugby Championship which starts in just three weeks.

Kolbe was replaced by Willie le Roux on Saturday with the Springboks opting for just two backline replacements as they ground out a series win over the Welsh thanks to their 30-14 victory at the Cape Town Stadium.

The 2022 Rugby Championship will kick off with a mouth-watering clash between the Springboks and All Blacks at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Saturday, 6 August following by a second clash between the two nations a week later at Ellis Park in Johannesburg.
