Massive transfer fee paid by Racing 92!

Nyakane joined Racing 92 in December 2021, after the Top 14 side struck an agreement with the Vodacom Bulls, buying the Limpopo native out of the last two years of his contract, which is reported to have cost a whopping R5 million in the process. Nyakane had been a loyal servant to the Tshwane-based union since joining them from the Cheetahs, where he made his name in the professional ranks.

Nyakane was a loyal servant to the Bulls

Nyakane spent all of six-years with the Bulls, playing in 92 games including Super Rugby, Currie Cup, Rainbow Cup and other tournaments. The 32-year-old’s career has, somewhat been blighted by injuries at crucial stages, perhaps characterised by him having to leave Japan after the first game of the 2019 World Cup against New Zealand. He would, however, return with former Bulls teammate Jesse Kriel to lift the trophy and claim his medal after the final.

2021 was also a year that didn’t finish without injuries for Nyakane, but throughout those setbacks, he was still able to play crucial fixtures at equally crucial stages for both the Bulls and the Springboks. He together with the likes of Ox Nche and Bongi Mbonambi were able to assert themselves on the international scene as a formidable trio against any opposition last year. That type of form would’ve no doubt been a huge factor that influenced Racing 92 to come calling.
