A new survey has found that Springbok lock Eben Etzebeth is the most popular South African rugby player!

After analysing global search volumes for 2021, it was found that Eben Etzebeth is the most popular Springbok!

Eben Etzebeth edges Siya in new Bok poll

Etzebeth edged out Springbok captain Siya Kolisi in the poll compiled by Rugby365. They found that the 30-year-old veteran lock came in first – with 9 588 average monthly searches – which makes him the most popular player in this case.

“Eben is widely regarded as one of the best players on the planet and has also gained the reputation of being one of the most intimidating men in the sport,” the publication reported.

Coming in second was Kolisi with 7 968 average monthly searches.

The Springbok captain is regularly in the spotlight – and even signed a fan’s booty after South Africa claimed a dominant victory over Scotland in Edinburgh last Saturday.

In third with, 3 531 average monthly searches, is flyhalf Handre Pollard – the highest-paid rugby player on the planet.

In fourth is No 8 Duane Vermeulen with 2 649 average monthly searches and completing the top five is lock Lood de Jager with 2 236 average monthly searches.

Damian de Allende, Willie le Roux, Frans Steyn, Steven Kisthoff and Trevor Nyakane complete the top 10.

The best rugby team in the world

Thanks to their 30-15 victory over Scotland – and the All Blacks’ 29-20 defeat to Ireland, the world champion Springboks regained their World Rugby No 1 ranking.

The Springboks entered the weekend 0.03 behind the All Blacks in the rankings but picked up 0.49 points after thrashing Scotland at Murrayfield in Edinburgh.

The All Blacks could’ve retained their top spot in the standings had they beaten Ireland in Dublin, but instead crashed to defeat.
