Springbok legend Jean de Villiers knows a thing or two about chasing after people and tackling them. Now, he’s apprehended a thief after chasing after him in his slip slops.

This time it was off the pitch. You’ve surely seen the video and images already, but here it all is from a new perspective.

Springbok legend Jean de Villiers “slops” a thief in his tracks

Jean de Villiers, affectionately known as JDV by numerous Bok fans, was never known for his blistering pace in a Bok jersey, but he turns on the after-burners here in order to apprehend a thief. Not even flimsy flip flops (slip slops?) could stop him from claiming justice.

JDV, from world-class rugger star to crime fighter

According to News24, the former Springbok captain was in The Boer and Butcher when he noticed a man nicking some sweets and then leaving the shop before paying for them. When he did not pay for them, De Villiers followed him out of the store and then yelled at him to stop, at which point the thief made a run for it.

De Villiers said: “When I said ‘hey’ he looked around and started running. Then I just said to myself ‘I must also run now and I chased him across the road towards Home Affairs, with my slops and sunglasses coming off.

“There is always a queue at Home Affairs and he bumped into a guy and I was able to secure him.
