Ex-Springbok hooker Lukas van Biljon and his family were victims of an armed robbery at their farm in the Free State.

Van Biljon, who played 13 Tests for the Springboks between 2001 and 2003, was allegedly stabbed during the attack, while his 70-year-old father was shot and wounded, according to News24.

POLICE CONFIRM ROBBERY ON SPRINGBOK PLAYER’S FARM

According to the report, the Free State police spokesperson Captain Loraine Earle confirmed an incident and revealed there were six perpetrators of which two — aged 32 and 42 — were apprehended at a roadblock in Viljoensdrift shortly after the attack on Friday night.

“At about 00:30 [on Saturday], the police were called to a smallholding at Oranjeville, where the Van Biljon family is staying. It is alleged that six armed men entered the house,” he said.

The former Springbok hooker was stabbed several times with a knife during the attack. Van Biljon senior then tried to some of their neighbouring farmers for help, but he came under guns fire and was wounded in the chest and hand.

Earle also confirmed that the robbers “tied the children with cable ties”.
