All Blacks and Chiefs centre Anton Lienert-Brown has been sidelined for six months after undergoing shoulder surgery.

The 26-year-old injured his right shoulder during the Chiefs’ 25-0 defeat against the Blues in their Super Rugby Pacific clash on Saturday after taking a hit from Blues scrumhalf Sam Nock at a ruck.

Lienert-Brown confirmed the news in a post on Instagram on Monday.

“Shoulder is going to need a bit more work than I was hoping,” he wrote.

“Going under the knife this week which will put me out for 6 months. A bump in the road but the journey continues. I’ll be back … appreciate all the support”.

The recovery from the operation will rule Lienert-Brown out of the All Blacks’ two Rugby Championship Tests against the Springboks in August this year.

The Springboks and All Blacks are due to clash in back-to-back matches on 6 and 13 August at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit and Ellis Park in Johannesburg, respectively.
