Blitzboks drawn to face All Blacks at Sydney Sevens

The Springbok Sevens have been drawn in Pool B alongside New Zealand at this weekend’s Sydney Sevens.

The Blitzboks finished in a disappointing tie for seventh place at last weekend’s World Rugby Sevens Series event in Hamilton, New Zealand.

The All Blacks finished runners-up, losing 14-12 to Argentina in the final.

However, it was enough to see New Zealand move to the top of the standings after four of 11 rounds in the 2022/23 season.

The Blitzboks, meanwhile, slipped to fourth place.

Joining the two powerhouses of sevens rugby in Pool B are Kenya and Uruguay.

Kenya are currently ranked 13th while Uruguay are 11th suggesting both South Africa and New Zealand should have little trouble progressing from the pool and reaching the Cup quarter-finals.

The Blitzboks will open their campaign at the Allianz Stadium against Kenya on Friday, before taking on Uruguay and New Zealand on Saturday.

The exact kick-off times were not available at the time of publishing.

Meanwhile, the SA women’s Sevens side will once again not be competing in Australia.
