The Blitzboks finished tied for seventh at the New Zealand Sevens after back-to-back defeats on the final day of the tournament in Hamilton on Sunday.

The Springboks Sevens side lost 22-17 to France in their Cup quarter-final and moved into the contest for fifth to eighth places where they went down 21-14 to Ireland.

Ireland had been knocked out of the title race 10-5 by the All Blacks side.

In other quarter-final results, Argentina beat Fiji 19-10 and the USA beat Australia 28-14.

In the Cup semi-finals, New Zealand thrashed France 38-0 while Argentina beat the USA 24-14.

That set up a New Zealand v Argentina final at 08:56 (SA time).

The Blitzboks will now refocus for the Australia leg of the 2022/23 World Sevens Series in Sydney next weekend.
