Blitzboks headline Dubai Sevens Dream Team

The Blitzboks have had three of its squad players included in the World Rugby Dream Team of the Dubai Sevens.

Three Blitzboks have been included in World Rugby’s Dream Team of the 2022 Dubai Sevens.

The Blitzboks were crowned Dubai Sevens Cup winners for a fourth consecutive time, securing pool-stage wins over Kenya and Australia before overpowering Samoa in the quarter-finals, New Zealand in the semi-finals and Ireland in the title decider.

With that run of results the Blitzboks clinched a record breaking 10th title at the Dubai Sevens.

As a result, the Dubai Sevens Dream Team is dominated by the Blitzboks, with Ricardo Duarttee, veteran Branco du Preez and captain Siviwe Soyizwapi  all selected.

The rest of  the composite sevens team consists of the USA’s Perry Baker, Ireland duo Harry McNulty and Mark Roche and New Zealander Akuila Rokolisoa.

Meanwhile, Shilton van Wyk’s try for South Africa against in the Cup final against Ireland made the cut as one of the Top Seven tries scored throughout the weekend at the Dubai tournament.

Kenya’s try against the Blitzboks in the Pool Stages was also selected on the best tries list.

TOP SEVEN TRIES SCORED IN DUBAI

The Cape Town Sevens takes place this weekend and the Blitzboks have been drawn in a tough pool, alongside bitter rivals Fiji, France and Canada.

France are ranked third after what was the second of 11 rounds in the 2022/23 World Rugby Sevens Series, while Fiji are in fifth spot. Canada are 12th.

Pool B will see Ireland, Samoa, Uruguay and Japan face off, while New Zealand, Argentina, Kenya and Spain have been drawn in Pool C.

Pool D features the USA, Australia, Great Britain and Uganda.
