The Blitzboks beat Ireland and will now face Spain for ninth place at the Singapore Sevens later on Easter Sunday.

As reported by The South African website, the Springboks Sevens side crashed out of the Cup competition on Saturday after defeats against Australia and New Zealand.

That left the Blitzboks in third place in Pool A and consigned them to a scrap for ninth-12th places.

On Sunday the Blitzboks beat Ireland – who had finished last in their pool – 12-5.

The South African side will now face Spain at 09:07 (SA time) to determine who finishes ninth and 10th overall.

Spain beat the USA 22-10 in their match.

Meanwhile, in the Cup quarter-finals Samoa beat Uruguay 22-7, Argentina beat Australia 29-12, Fiji beat France 33-21 and New Zealand eliminated Great Britain 22-10.

In the semi-finals Samoa will take on Argentina (10:13 SA time) and Fiji and New Zealand will lock horns (10:35 SA time) on Sunday.
