Kruger lost his battle to cancer in 2010

Ruben Jacobus Kruger was born on 30 March 1970 and passed away on 27 January 2010 following a decade long battle with brain cancer.

He hung up his boots in 2000 after a superb career where he was known as “the silent assassain”.

Off the pitch, Kruger established a camera franchise business in Pretoria.

Kruger’s brain tumour was removed in 2000 but then resurfaced in 2009, and he passed away just two months short of his 40th birthday.

In 1995, he played a starring role in the tournament with five starting appearances and a try in the semi-final win over France. Many believe he was disallowed a try in the final against the All Blacks.
