Hougaard, now 32, left Pretoria in 2016 to join the Worcester Warriors in England.

He qualifies to apply for British citizenship at the end of 2021.

However, throwing a potential spanner in those works is the fact that Bulls coach Jake White has offered the 46-Test Springbok a contract to return to the club he played 88 Super Rugby matches for.

According to Sunday’s Rapport, negotiations between Francois Hougaard and the Bulls have “gone well” but a contract hasn’t yet been signed as the player contemplates extending his stay in England.

The Bulls will want Hougaard to decide either way as they will shortly have something of a void at No 9 following Ivan van Zyl’s imminent departure.

Since’s White arrival in Pretoria the Bulls have been on a recruitment drive with former Springboks Marcell Coetzee and Johan Goosen both signed from European clubs.
