Stormers No 8 Evan Roos is fit and ready to fire again for the defending URC champions – here he answers a few questions.

Roos made his much-anticipated return from injury last week and is in the Stormers starting line-up to face Benetton on Friday.

The match kicks off at 18:30 at the Danie Craven Stadium and the Springbok forward can’t wait to get stuck in.

How good is it to be back? There was a loud roar at DHL Stadium when you came on against Munster, how did that feel?

It is awesome to be back, I felt like a superhero jogging onto the field with the people going on like that. It made it very special to come back from injury and made me appreciate it even more.

It has been a frustrating season injury-wise, has the rehab process taught you anything?

It has been very frustrating, dead right. It has taught me patience and to keep in mind that there is a bigger plan in place. It is something that is out of your control, but it gave me time to connect with family and friends which you usually don’t get time for. So there is always a silver lining.

We are back at Danie Craven Stadium where we started the season. Are you looking forward to playing here as a Stellenbosch local?

I can’t wait to play there. Being a local in Stellenbosch it is awesome to play in front of the people. A lot of my mates who are students can come watch, so it is obviously a massive jol and it is an awesome field to play on, which is rich with history and tradition so I’m very happy to play there with my team.

How important is it for the team to put together a good performance this weekend in terms of taking some momentum into the play-offs?

Obviously these last two games didn’t go our way with small errors and small margins costing us, but we are on the right track. A win is important to get us on the right track heading into the play-offs, so I can assure you that the DHL Stormers team will be doing their best. The preparations have gone well this week, so we are ready to put in a good performance.

You will be running out alongside some of your good mates like JJ Kotze and Paul de Wet, who earns his 50th DHL Stormers cap on Friday. Must feel a lot better than watching from the stands.

There is a bit of a joke in the team about how close myself and JJ are, but obviously having been out for a few months it is awesome to be back playing with my bestie. Also with Paul earning his 50th cap, it is awesome that it is in Stellenbosch which is very nostalgic for him, so I am very happy for him and I can’t wait. It is going to be a massive game and being out there with my good mates is going to make it even more fun.

BENETTON TEST

What are you expecting from Benetton this weekend?

Evan Roos: Benetton have a lot of Italian internationals in the team, so they are obviously a good side and they play good rugby, so we definitely have to step it up in terms of playing with intensity and tempo. We can expect a tough game, no game in the Vodacom URC is easy, so I’m looking forward to it.
