England international rugby star arrested on suspicion of raping a teenager

An England rugby union player, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been arrested on suspicion of raping a teenager in a nightclub

According to the Daily Mail, the England international was held in custody this past weekend following a report of the alleged incident, which was said to have taken place after the individual in question partied at a nightclub in the Manchester city centre on Saturday night.

The victim reportedly planned to get a taxi home with friends, but instead accepted a lift from the player, who allegedly drove her to a property away from the city centre, where they stayed the night.

The following morning, at around 11am, the homeowner found the girl in a confused state and called the police.

A 41-year-old woman has also been held on suspicion of administering a substance with intent to cause a sexual offence.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “Officers were called shortly before 11am on Sunday, 9th January to a report of a sexual assault on a female.

“A woman in her late teens was reported to have been sexually assaulted. She is currently being supported by specialist officers.

“A man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and a 41-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of administering a substance with intent to cause a sexual offence.

“Detectives have launched an investigation and are following up a number of lines of enquiry.”

England’s rugby union has not commented on the issue

Both arrested parties have been released on bail.

The England Rugby Football Union was contacted by but said it does not comment on police matters.
