Lions coach slams side after WP loss: ‘Our discipline was terrible!’

Lions coach Mziwakhe Nkosi has slammed his side for their poor discipline in their 48-36 Currie Cup defeat to Western Province at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.

While the Lions looked decent at times on attack, they conceded far too many penalties and Nkosi was scathing in his criticism of his charges.

“To say our discipline was terrible is actually an understatement,” Nkosi said post-match.

“The penalty count was 16-6 at some point and at any level of the game, you are not going to win a game regardless of the merits of those penalties.

“We also allowed them [WP] to score points four times after we scored.

“Take away those 20 points and the game would’ve looked different.”

The Lions will next be in action when they host the Pumas at Ellis Park on Wednesday, 19 January.

Kick-off is at 15:30.

The Pumas lost 33-19 to the defending champion Bulls in their first outing last Friday.
