When Western Province travelled north in the 2020 season and managed to sneak a victory over the Cheetahs thanks to a Tim Swiel penalty goal on the stroke of full-time to steer the Capetonians to a 31-29 win in round six. Swiel’s seventh penalty goal came a few minutes after the home team launched a stunning comeback with two quick late tries, by Wilmar Arnoldi and Rosko Specman, to draw level late in the game.
The points awarded after a raft of cancellations in the tournament have been unkind to Western Province, however a win will be enough to lift them above the Pumas who topped the log coming into this round of fixtures.
Lions vs Griquas as it happened
The Cheetahs are rooted to the bottom of the table having played just three matches, twice losing.
The men from Bloemfontein scraped past the Pumas last time out while Western Province suffered an upset loss to Griquas, two weeks ago.
Many of the core Western Province players were involved in the Stormers loss to the British and Irish Lions over the weekend. That match will, hower stand WP in good stead for a tough fixture in Bloem.
