It’s another memorable moment for Hendricks, in particular, when one considers that the 33-year-old thought his career was over due to a heart issue just a few short years ago.

Hendricks made 12 Test appearances for the Springboks, scoring five tries, before he was forced into early retirement soon after moving from the Cheetahs to the Stormers ahead of the 2016 Super Rugby season.

Later that year, the player attempted to make a comeback in the French Top 14, as Toulon announced that he would link up with the club, but it was later announced that he would not be joining over concerns around his heart condition.

However, in 2018, the Bulls announced that he would be joining the franchise after receiving medical clearance, and the wing/centre has gone from strength to strength ever since.

Exciting 20-year-old front-rower, Wessels, has signed with Hendricks until 2024, while the 21-year-old fullback Kriel has extended his stay at Loftus Versfeld until 2023.

“Cornal Hendricks has proven to be a key figure of the Bulls team, on and off the field. We are pleased to have been able to extend his contract with us until 2024,” said Bulls director of rugby, Jake White.

“Part of our bigger vision is to nurture young talent and groom some of our youngsters to form part of the core of the Bulls. As such, it is important that talented players like Jan-Hendrik Wessels and Richard Kriel – who are the future of Bulls rugby – remain rooted at Loftus as we continue to build towards having a successful, world-class team.”
