Izak van der Westhuizen will replace Corniel van Zyl as the Cheetahs‘ forwards coach.

Van Zyl has accepted a long-term offer from English club London Irish.

PLAYED LOCK FOR CHEETAHS

Van der Westhuizen, who played lock for the Cheetahs from 2007-2012 apart from a stint at the Griffons between 2008-2009, has coached the union’s junior teams since 2015.

He also assisted the Cheetahs’ Currie Cup team in 2018 and 2019, particularly with their lineouts.

Van der Westhuizen also played for Scottish side Edinburgh between 2012-2014 after which a series of concussions forced him to hang up his boots.
