Oh boy … just what new Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber ordered isn’t it?

Two members of his recently announced 46-man squad for the British & Irish Lions series – RG Snyman and Damian De Allende – reportedly got injured in a fire incident over the weekend

The Springbok duo who play for Irish giants Munster, was reportedly with their team-mates, including South African-born Ireland international CJ Stander, when what is described as a ‘fire-pit accident’ occurred.

Snyman and De Allende came out worst

Although the likes of Stander as well as another team-mate Mike Haley sustained burns to their hands and are thought to be in the frame for Munster’s fixture against Zebre on Friday evening should they recover substantially before then, Snyman and De Allende are believed to have come out the worst in the incident.

In what should prove to be of even more concern to Springbok fans, is the wording used to describe the players’ injuries. The report goes as far as stating that both Snyman and De Allende have suffered ‘substantial’ burns to the face, hands and legs. De Allende has already been ruled out for Friday’s fixture while Snyman would’ve not been able to play regardless as he continues to rehabilitate from a long-term injury.

Snyman is already sidelined by a long-term injury

Towering lock Snyman has already spent a significant period on the sidelines nursing a serious injury to his knee and any further harm will not be ideal for him nor the Springboks as he is already touch and go despite being named in Nienaber’s maiden Springbok squad.

Tough as nails inside centre De Allende has continued his sterling form from the World Cup in Europe so far. The former Stormers player has been a pivotal member of the Munster side this season and has even shown his versatility by playing at outside centre.

Hoping for positive news

The duo is due for another visit to a specialist later this week where all of Munster, Springbok fans and coaches as well as themselves will be hoping for some positive news.
