Makazole Mapimpi, S’Busiso Nkosi and Lukhanyo Am of South Africa celebrate with the Web Ellis Cup following their team’s victory over England in the Rugby World Cup 2019 Final between England and South Africa at International Stadium Yokohama on November 02, 2019 in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan.

The Springboks will arrive back in South Africa this week with the Webb Ellis trophy in tow but they will not all be travelling together.

South Africans will get two chances to greet the returning World Champions with one group of players and support staff arriving on Tuesday 5 November and the remainder jetting in on Wednesday.

Coach Rassie Erasmus, Springbok captain Siya Kolisi and vice-captain Handre Pollard will be among the first batch of squad members who are due to arrive from Japan.

The first flights are expected to land in at OR Tambo airport in Johannesburg at approximately 16:30-16:45 on Tuesday.

The three will be amongst several RWC-winning squad members who will attend the official Springbok arrivals media conference at the media centre at International Arrivals, OR Tambo International Airport.

Among the Springbok World Cup winners is one man celebrating a second win in Frans Steyn. He was understandably emotional after the triumph.

“It’s amazing of course,” he said, reflecting on his eventful life and career since the World Cup final win by South Africa over England in 2007. “I’ve gone through so much since that World Cup.

“I lost my uncle a couple of weeks ago. I lost my brother a few years ago. So everything has changed a lot in that time from where I was then to where I am now.

“So on the bus on the way here, that’s what I was thinking about. They were with me in here before tonight’s game.

“I’m in a WhatsApp group with the players from that (2007) tournament. We still stay in touch and have a laugh. That’s the sort of thing these guys will have too.

“It [winning] is huge, as the country is in a worse position now than it was then. There have been numerous droughts recently and a ton of other stuff. Hopefully, it can bring the country together.”
