South Africa-born multiple Olympic medal winner, Roland Schoeman, is officially a United States citizen.

Schoeman, who will turn 42 on, perhaps appropriately, 4 July this year, took to social media to show off his certificate as well as hold a Stars and Stripes flag.

Born in Pretoria, Schoeman represented Mzansi at four Olympic Games – in 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012.

Roland Schoeman is perhaps best known for his role as lead-off swimmer in South Africa’s gold medal winning 4x100m freestyle relay quartet at the 2004 Athens Olympics.

In addition to that medal, Schoeman also won a silver (100m freestyle) and bronze (50m freestyle) in Greece.

Roland Schoeman also has several other medals

He also has five World Championship medals (3 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze) and 12 Commonwealth Games medals (4 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze) to his name.

Schoeman broke three long course world records (two individual, one relay) and six short course world records (all individual) before hanging up his competitive goggles.
