Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro says second spot in the DStv is still in Pirates hands going into the last game of the season.

A goal by Terrence Dvukamanja against Sekhukhune look set to secure a second place finish but Edwin Gyimah equalised to force a 1-1 draw. SuperSport United on the otherhand, defeated Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 to go level on points with Pirates.

Riveiro said the game was tough and his side found it difficult to break Sekhukhune’s defence.

Riveiro’s men travel to Durban to face AmaZulu

“It was a difficult game, and what we expected….but not as tough as it was in terms of the way they defended and the structure that they used,” Riveiro was quoted by The Citizen.

“So, we tried to adjust. But this this is something that opponents use when they come to Orlando. They do things differently. We were patient enough in the first-half, and we got the lead, but it was not enough. We gave them metres (space) and an opportunity to come into our box,” said Riveiro.

“Due to that, they got a lot of set-pieces and from one of them, they got the goal.”

Bucs coach is now concerned about his side’s chances of finishing behind Mamelodi Sundowns.

Pirates need a win to secure second spot

“You can correct me if I am wrong, but it is still in our hands to get the second spot when we win next week in Durban, that’s our objective now. Hopefully, the Buccaneers (supporters) will fill up the stadium and we can celebrate the second position,” Riveiro said.

United take on Sekhukhune in their last DStv match of the season at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane next week. Hunt’s men need to win and hope that the Buccaneers draw or lose.

Should both teams win, Pirates will finish second as they have a superior goal difference.
