PSL ticket prices: How each team compares

Some fixtures tend to pull more of a crowd than others, thus warranting a hike in what it costs to attend. We compare how each team in the PSL charges for tickets to their home games.

Sometimes kicking back in front of the TV to watch your favourite PSL team just doesn’t cut it, and the better option is to fork out a few rands for tickets to get much closer to the action.

Cape Town City are one club which has gone against the grain, as they responded to the growing demand of tickets to their home games by slashing prices to just a third of their original price.

Other clubs may soon follow suit, as seeing more bum on seats enhances the buzz around the stadium, and you can never really go wrong by cultivating a culture of attending matches.

The atmosphere in the local game has always been a unique one and, while the roar of the vuvuzela has faded in recent years, supporters have brought back amagwijo to the stadiums, which make the experience a lot more inviting.

PSL ticket prices

AmaZulu

AmaZulu play back-to-back games home and away against Cape Town City in the space of a week, and the earlier fixture held at King Zwelithini Stadium will set you back R15 for a child under 12 years and R40 per adult.

Subsequent games at the venue range from R20 for kids.

Baroka FC

Baroka alternate between the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium and the newer venue named after the same late ANC stalwart, and host Golden Arrows in the Telkom Knockout at the former on Saturday before not seeing any home fixtures until mid-December.

For their only home game in the foreseeable fixture, tickets cost between R15 and R40.

Bidvest Wits

The Clever Boys are based at the rather intimate Bidvest Stadium, and tickets at the venue are priced at the standard R40 for adults.

Black Leopards

While the return of top-flight soccer to the iconic Thohoyandou Stadium may have been delayed at the start of the season, the Lidoda Duvha faithful have fully embraced the beautiful game with full houses at each of their home games so far.

Black Leopards’ next home fixture is against Free State Stars next Sunday, and tickets for that clash range between R40 for the open stand, R70 for the grand-stand, and a relatively cheap R500 for the VIP suites.

Bloemfontein Celtic

Bloemfontein Celtic have some of the most vocal home support in the country, and one only has to fork out the standard R40 to join the festivities at Dr Molemela Stadium.

Cape Town City

The Citizens have enjoyed growing home support in their three seasons in the top flight and have gone against the grain in response to that by slashing ticket prices for their next home fixture from R60 to just R20.

Chippa United

Chippa United are another club alternating between two home venues, and their next league game is a big one against Mamelodi Sundowns, who they clash with at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane on Saturday, 27 October.

That is before they return to Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium for an encounter against AmaZulu at the end of November.

Tickets for both matches are set at R40 for adults and R20 for children.

Free State Stars

Free State Stars are another side that kicks off their Telkom Knockout campaign at home, and tickets for their opener against defending champions Bidvest Wits at Goble Park also range between the standard R15 and R40.

Highlands Park

Thembisa has been abuzz since Highlands Park were promoted back into the PSL for this season, with the 15 000-seater Makhulong Stadium drawing near-capacity crowds for each of their home matches.

Tickets prices have so far been set at a maximum R40 each time the Lions of the North have played at home, including the recent clash against Kaizer Chiefs which was a sellout a day before kick off.

Kaizer Chiefs

The most supported club in the country plays most of their home games at the massive FNB Stadium, although it has not enjoyed overwhelming home support in recent years, depending on the opposition.

Kaizer Chiefs host Black Leopards in the Telkom Knockout this weekend, and tickets for that clash have been set at the standard R10 for children younger than 12 years and R40 for adults.

The big Soweto derby, also held at FNB Stadium, counts as Orlando Pirates’ home game, meaning the next time Amakhosi will play host to a known crowd-puller will be when they do battle against Mamelodi Sundowns in January next year. Tickets for that clash range between R70 and R170.

Lamontville Golden Arrows

Golden Arrows are another club that has set tickets at R15 for children under 12 and R40 for adults.

Their next home game is the midweek clash against Baroka on 10 November.

Mamelodi Sundowns

The reigning PSL champions are in action against Bloemfontein at Lucas Moripe Stadium in the Telkom Knockout on Saturday, and tickets for that clash will cost one R40 for adults, and just R15 for children.

Maritzburg United

The Team of Choice were helped along by a partisan crowd at Harry Gwala Stadium when they went on a dream run last season, which saw them finish as runners-up in the Nedbank Cup, while ending up in fourth place in the league standings.

Their next home game is the Telkom Knockout first-round clash against Highlands Park, and tickets for that range between R15 and R40.

Orlando Pirates

One fixture that is sure to put bums on seats is next weekend’s Soweto derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

The match will see the Buccaneers momentarily trade their usual home base of the 40 000-capacity Orlando Stadium momentarily for the 94 000-seater FNB Stadium as they are billed as the home side for that titanic clash, ticket prices have been set between R70 and R150.

However, for other matches, a ticket to see the Sea Robbers in action is set at R40 for adults and just R10 for children under 12 years.

Polokwane City

Like most teams playing at home this weekend, Polokwane City have set tickets for their TKO clash against Supersport United at R15 for kids and R40 for adults.

Supersport United

Supersport United share Lucas Moripe Stadium with city rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and, on occasion, trek down to Mbombela Stadium for some of their home matches.

One such occasion is their next home game, where they will be hosting Golden Arrows at the World Cup stadium, with tickets costing R20 for children and R40 for adults.
