PSL results and latest PSL log: Chiefs finally break their duck against Baroka

New signing Leonardo Castro introduced himself to the Kaizer Chiefs faithful in fine style as he provided the winner on debut, helping his ten-man side to their first ever win against Baroka FC at Peter Mokaba stadium on Sunday.

Amakhosi did all the running early on as, in the ninth minute, George Maluleke’s chip found an unmarked Gustavo Paez who’s ball across across goal only found a defender who cleared it to safety.

Keeper Itumeleng Khune was called into action soon after as he had to make a save off a venomous long-range effort from Lucky Nguzana who would find reason to celebrate on the half hour mark as he tapped in a rebound from the post to make it 1-0.

Chiefs would draw level a minute after halftime as 21-year old Ryan Moon used his height advantage to get on the end of Siphiwe Tshabalala’s cross and head it in for the equaliser.

The visitors continued surging forward but their search for the winner was seemingly compromised when Joseph Malongoane’s needless elbow challenge earned him a straight red, resulting in his side playing out the remaining 18 minutes a man down.

Castro almost provided the winner in the 80th minute but his header went wide but we would be right on the money four minutes later with first-time shot that found its way to the back of the net.

In the day’s other fixture, Chippa United and Golden Arrows played to a goalless draw at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
