Orlando Pirates had to settle for a solitary point as they played to a 1-1 draw against Polokwane City at Orlando Stadium on Saturday night.

The home side did most of the running early on but lacked the finishing touch as a resilient Polokwane City defence kept them at bay.

The breakthrough would come in the opposite end as new signing Dominic Chungwa opened his account at “Rise and Shine” in the 18th minute.

The Buccaneers would start the second half more assured but they would be made to toil and it wasn’t until two minutes from the final whistle when it payed off, through 17-year old Lyle Foster who blasted into the net from close range.

The draw moves Pirates to fifth on the log, one point ahead of bitter rivals Kaizer Chiefs who are in action against Baroka on Sunday afternoon.

AmaZulu 2-0 Supersport United

Supersport United’s woes continued as they went down 2-0 to AmaZulu at King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday.

The oldest player in the league Siyabonga Nomvethe provided the opener when he was left unmarked, shooting past Reeyad Pieterse.

Pieterse was in the thick of the action again as his pass to captain Dean Furman was intercepted by Ovidy Karuru who slotted the second goal in.

Mamelodi Sundowns 3-0 Platinum Stars

A near perfect first half performance from log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns saw them make light work of last placed Platinum Stars as they eased to a 3-0 win on Saturday at Loftus.

The gulf between the two sides was apparent from very early on as The Brazilians dictated matters from early on, getting just reward for their efforts in the 21st  minute through a long-range stunner from Sibusiso Vilakazi.

Khama Billiat doubled the lead just ten minutes later when he converted a free-kick, curling it in into the top left corner, before making it three in the matter of minutes with another stunner.

Sundowns maintained their dominance while the visitors hardly looked threatening but no further goals would come as it remained 3-0.

Cape Town City 1-0 Ajax Cape Town

Cape Town City maintained their 100% win record in the #iKapaDerby as they registered a 1-0 win over Ajax Cape Town on Saturday.

The Citizens were in control for much of the first half  coming close to opening the scoring a few times while Ajax hung back and absorbed the pressure.

That pressure would prove too much for the Urban Warriors as, six minutes into the second half, Craig Martin leaped to connect with a cross from close range to make it 1-0 to City.

They clung on to their slim lead as Ajax searched for their first ever goal against their city rivals to no avail.

Free State Stars 0-3 Maritzburg United

The win takes City up to second place on the log ahead of Free State Stars who suffered a heavy defeat at home, going down 3-0 to Maritzburg United. This was thanks to second half goals from Andreas Fillecia, Evans Rusike and Bandile Shandu.

Bidvest Wits 1-0 Bloemfontein Celtic

Friday night saw Bidvest Wits continued their escape from the relegation zone as they collected a vital three points via a 1-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic to move to 13th place on the log.

Englishman James Keene slotted in a penalty in the half hour mark after a deliberate handball from Mpho Maruping who saw red for his indiscretion.
