It rained goals in Umlazi as AmaZulu held Mamelodi Sundowns to a three-all draw at King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday.
The hosts were first on the scoreboard through Butholezwe Ncube, before Phakamani Mahlambi responded with a goal on debut for the Brazilians.
The second half began with Sundowns getting ahead through a solo effort from Tony Silva, but the lead was cancelled out three minutes later by Jabulani Ncobeni.
It was Usuthu’s turn to take the lead, through Bonginkosi Ntuli, who moved to the Durban outfit from the Brazilians during the recently concluded transfer window.
With five minutes on the clock, Sibusiso Vilakazi put the defending champions back level with the sixth goal of the match.
After registering four consecutive draws, Highlands Park got their first win on their return to the top flight with a 2-1 win over Golden Arrows.
Mothobi Mvala opened the scoring for the hosts from the penalty spot in the 24th minute, before Danny Venter drew level for the visitors.
Mvala got his second just four minutes from the break to ensure that the Lions of the North climb up to the top half of the table.
Tshegofatso Mabasa’s early strike ensured that Bloemfontein Celtic maintained their unbeaten run, as they came away with a 1-0 win over Black Leopards at Thohoyandou Stadium.
Orlando Pirates finally got revenge over Supersport United as they walked away 3-1 victors at Orlando Stadium in one of Saturday’s two late-night fixtures.
Vincent Pule continued his good form as he grabbed his second goal in as many matches for the Buccaneers when he opened the scoring in the 14th minute.
That’s how it remained as the two sides went into the break before Bongani Khumalo provided the equaliser in the second half.
It looked as if it would be a stalemate, but a late surge from the hosts saw substitute Thembinkosi Lorch mark his return from injury with a goal after some cheeky work from Xola Mlambo, which was followed by another strike from Ben Motshwari, who got his first goal in Orlando Pirates colours with just three minutes late on the clock.
Free State Stars’ indifferent form this season continued as they fell to 1-0 defeat at the hands of Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, with Thando Booi’s early strike enough to separate the two sides.
Kaizer Chiefs clinched their first league win of the season in emphatic style as they thrashed Cape Town City 4-1.
The Glamour Boys got on the scoresheet as early as the 12th minute through defender Siyabonga Ngezana, but that lead didn’t last too long as former Chiefs player Matthew Rusike levelled matters soon after.
A second-half brace from Khama Billiatt saw the visitors stretch forward, before substitute, Philani Zulu helped himself to his first goal for Chiefs.
A second-half strike from Andile Mbenyane was enough to hand Chippa United a win against Baroka at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane.
Things ended goalless at Harry Gwala Stadium, as neither basement-dwellers Maritzburg United nor the table-topping Bidvest Wits managed to find the net.
