Cape Town City’s tough run-in to the MTN8 final continues with another tough fixture, as they travel to Soweto where they will take on Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday night.

Benni McCarthy’s men come off a heavy home defeat at the hands of their opponents’ rivals Kaizer Chiefs in a match which wasn’t without controversy, as they were reduced to ten men inside the final half hour of the contest after Tariq Fielies was given his marching orders.

The sending off drew much criticism from the coach, who didn’t mince his words during his post-match interview, which was followed by one of his players taking to Twitter to voice his displeasure.

The defeat saw City drop to 12th place on the log, having collected just five points in as many matches, with their only win of the campaign coming in their season opener against Supersport United.

They come up against a side that will be looking for their third straight win and look to be hitting their straps after an indifferent start to their campaign.

Following three consecutive defeats in all competitions, Orlando Pirates turned things around in Polokwane when they came out 2-1 winners against Black Leopards at Peter Mokaba Stadium in their last outing before the international break.

They followed that up with a convincing 3-1 home win against Supersport, a side they have had trouble seeing off in recent years.

Coach Milutin Sredojevic said he was expecting his side to keep the winning momentum ahead of the clash against Cape Town City.

“The good is that on the wings from the confidence of this win tonight we can correct what is wrong and keep up what was good going into the next set of matches that we have starting with Cape Town City on Wednesday.”

Orlando Pirates vs Cape Town City: Head to head

After drawing their first two encounters in City’s first season in the top flight, the two sides have one win apiece in their two league clashes since, with the home side emerging victorious on each occasion.

It is the visitors who will have somewhat of a psychological advantage, as they have claimed another win over the Buccaneers in last season’s Nedbank Cup quarterfinal.
