Kaizer Chiefs will look to improve what’s been an indifferent record at FNB Stadium with a win against Black Leopards on Wednesday.

Kaizer Chiefs have released a statement following the reported arrest of attacking midfielder Dumisani Zuma.

Kaizer Chiefs are back at FNB Stadium where they host Black Leopards in a crucial PSL encounter on Wednesday night.

The Glamour Boys have had a tough time of it in the league this season, and find themselves in seventh place on the log with just three wins from their 11 matches so far in their campaign.

They are, however, coming off a victory in the Telkom Knockout and will be looking to keep their winning momentum against a side they beat in the same competition less than a month ago.

With cup action on hold for the next two weeks, the main focus is now on league football, where the Soweto giants have not registered a victory since beating AmaZulu 2-0 at home on 22 September.

What the teams are saying

Coach Giovanni Solinas emphasised the importance of getting back to winning ways;

“Now we need to focus on the next game against Black Leopards because there is no time to recover because Wednesday we have another game. The position Chiefs is in is not good.

“Wednesday we need to win the game because we need to improve our position on the log, because we are Kaizer Chiefs and Kaizer Chiefs play to win.”

While their own home record this season is not in anyway impressive, Kaizer Chiefs are up against a side that has struggled away from home on their return to the top flight.

Black Leopards have just two wins to their name in nine outings this season and have only picked up two points away from home, courtesy of draws against Highlands Park and Chippa United.

However, Lidoda Duvha coach Joel Masutha is confident that his charges can return from FNB Stadium with a positive result, regardless of the XI that’s put out by their more fancied opponents.

“We are confident we can get a result even though they’ll have almost all of their players back from injury and they won’t be able to use that as an excuse.

“But for us, it is even easier to play against a full-strength Chiefs side because we know all of them. We are going for the result.”

Kaizer Chiefs vs Black Leopards: Head to head

Black Leopards were relegated into the first division at the end of the 2012/13 season, but did encounter Kaizer Chiefs once in the 2014/15 Nedbank Cup, where they emerged victorious, winning 2-1 in the round of 16.

In matches prior to that, the two teams met four times in the period where Lidoda Duvha had their last run in the top flight, with Amakhosi winning three of those encounters, while the Thohoyandou-based outfit prevailed just once.
