Cape Town City will be hoping their recent win from over the weekend has ushered a period of consistency as they travel to take on Free State Stars at Goble Park on Wednesday night.

Benni Mccarthy’s charges drew first blood in their MTN8 semi-final tie when they took a 1-0 home win into the second leg to be played this coming weekend.

They currently occupy eighth place in the PSL log after three matches, having collected a full house of possible results – kicking off their campaign with a home victory against Supersport United, before losing to Baroka away, and later being held to a goalless draw by Lamontville Golden Arrows.

They come up against a side languishing well in the bottom half of the table at 14th position.

Free State Stars have so far failed to build on their dream run from last season, where they finished sixth, their highest finish since 2009, and claimed silverware for the first time in 24 years as they were crowned Nedbank Cup champions.

Luc Eymael’s men have just one win – against a ten-man Maritzburg – to report on in league action and also fell on the first hurdle in the MTN8.

They opened their league campaign with a 3-0 defeat to Bidvest Wits and were beaten by AmaZulu in their most recent outing.
