Orlando Pirates will be looking to return to the top of the league standings as they travel to Umlazi for a clash against AmaZulu at King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday.

The Buccaneers were sitting pretty at the summit of the PSL log going into the recent break from league action but relinquished their position at the top to Bidvest Wits who grabbed a crucial win away to Cape Town City, while the Soweto giants plodded along to a goalless draw at home to Black Leopards.

Now sitting in second place, Pirates will be looking to regain their winning form, and seek some consistency in what has been an indifferent showing so far this season.

PSL team news

In nine matches played, the Buccaneers have won just four times, drawing three times and losing twice.

However, they willl boosted by an almost perfect record on the road, where they have won three times, losing once, but coach Milutin Sredojevic
is wary of Saturday’s opponents, who have built a reputation of being tricky customers on their home turf.

“We know that whenever one of the so-called big three visits them, it’s not an easy place to play,” Sredojevic said.

“But I have belief in what we do and have total trust in our players, because they know where they are going and the kind of challenge in front of us.”

AmaZulu have won just twice at home so far this season, but gave a good enough showing against defending league champions Mamelodi Sundowns, holding them to a 3-3 draw on their last home outing.

“It’s a kind of match where you would need to be totally in the game every moment, because there’s a thin line between failing and success,” Sredojevic continued.

Usuthu will also be desperate to restart their league campaign, after they were dealt a heavy blow by the PSL’s disciplinary committee, which deducted six points from their tally, banishing them to the bottom of the log.

This was part of a sanction imposed on them for unlawfully terminating Namibian player Phineas Nambandi’s back in 2013.

AmaZulu vs Orlando Pirates: Head to head

Orlando Pirates were the last club to defeat AmaZulu at King Zwelithini, as they ran off 2-1 winners at the venue back in April, in an entertaining clash that was decided by a late Thabo Qalinge winner.

However, stalemates have been the prevailing theme in clashes between these two sides in recent years, with no less than eight in the last 14 matches.

In this period, the Buccaneers have emerged victorious on six occasions, with Usuthu winning just two of these encounters, the last of which came over five years ago in August 2013, prior to their relegation after the next PSL campaign which saw them miss out on the next two seasons.
