Mamelodi Sundowns stamped their status as favourites to walk away with the PSL title on Wednesday when they collected another three points to go five points clear at the top of the table.

For other contenders in the race this spells an uphill climb as the collective challenge for the title has been rather tame, with both the second and third placed teams only registering half the number of wins as the Pretoria side, despite both playing two more games.

The upcoming weekend presents a chance for quite a few teams to get over what’s been a general slump in form across the league.

Friday, 15 December

Cape Town City v AmaZulu, Cape Town Stadium -20:00

After being wanderers in the past week, Cape Town City return home to the Cape Town Stadium on Friday as they host AmaZulu in a bid to get their league campaign back on track after a string of disappointing results.

Saturday, 16 December

Mamelodi Sundowns v Bloemfontein Celtic, Loftus Versfeld – 15:30

On Saturday Mamelodi Sundowns will look to stretch their lead at the top even further when they meet the in-form Bloem Celtic at Loftus Versfeld.

Chippa United v Polokwane City, Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium – 15:30

Polokwane City travel all the way down to Port Elizabeth to take on Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium. The home side will look to bounce back from defeat suffered at the hands of Ajax Cape Town while the visitors will be hoping to do better than the disappointing draw they played to against Bidvest Wits.

Free State Stars v Orlando Pirates, Goble Park – 18:00

Orlando Pirates are away to a Free State Stars side fresh off a midweek at Goble Park on Saturday evening. Anything less than a win for the Buccaneers might make things a lot more difficult in terms of their title ambitions.

Kaizer Chiefs v Ajax Cape Town, Moses Mabhida – 20:15

Kaizer Chiefs travel to their alternative home ground Moses Mabida stadium as they host an Ajax Cape Town side that would have been buoyed by a win in their previous outing.

Bidvest Wits v Platinum Stars, Bidvest Stadium – 20:15

Bidvest Wits host fellow strugglers Platinum Stars at the Bidvest stadium. These two sides occupy the bottom two spots on the league and will look to use this fixture as a crutch to escape the relegation zone.
