Arsenal 3-0 Watford

Arsenal overpowered Watford in the Premier League on Sunday, as keeper Petr Cech finally clinched his 200th EPL clean sheet.

He even needed to save a penalty to do so as the Gunners ended a horror run of three straight defeats.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was thwarted by Orestis Karnezis after breaking clear inside three minutes.

You could see Shkodran Mustafi’s opener coming from a mile off.

The Hornets produced another shocking advert for zonal marking as the German was gifted time aplenty to head back across goal and inside the left-hand post in the eighth minute.

Abdoulaye Doucoure then shot through two flying defenders to force Cech into a good stop.

There could have been further goals at either end within the space of a minute.

Mesut Ozil was denied at close quarters by Karnezis, seconds after Roberto Pereyra had shot wastefully over from a rebound with the goal gaping.

Aubameyang was much more sure-footed after being played in by former Borussia Dortmund team-mate Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The speedster rounded Karnezis and tucked away just before the hour mark.

But Arsenal – and specifically Ainsley Maitland-Niles – tried to shoot themselves in the foot a minute later.

The young defender’s clumsy foul in the box allowed pantomime villain Troy Deeney the chance to score from the spot.

Cech was equal to his effort, though, preserving his 200th Premier League clean sheet of a distinguished career.

The Dortmund duo then dovetailed once more as Aubameyang squared unselfishly for Mkhitaryan to force in through the crowd.

It was more than enough to lift the gloom for long-serving, long-suffering boss Arsene Wenger.

For the time being, at least.
