Watford 1-2 Manchester City

League leaders Manchester City survived a late scare to secure top spot heading into the weekend with a 2-1 win away to Watford.

Riyad Mahrez and Leroy Sane combined to put the Champions in front after 40 minutes. Mahrez delivered a beauty of a cross and Sane arrived late at the back post to chest home past a diving Ben Foster.

Gabriel Jesus was played in behind the Watford defence by David Silva and  would cut the ball back to Mahrez to double City’s advantage just after the break.

A late goal from Abdoulaye Doucouré for Watford made the last few minutes of the match interesting but City held on to secure the points.

Brighton 3-1 Crystal Palace

Ten Man Brighton saw off Crystal Palace with a devastating display of attacking football after Shane Duffy was sent off.

Duffy appeared to attempt to headbutt Patrick van Aanholt and could not argue with the red card he received shortly after Brighton had taken the lead from the penalty spot via Glenn Murray. Only Mohamed Salah has opened the scoring in more Premier League games this season than Murray.

Leon Balogun was brought on to restore Brighton’s shape but made an impact at the other end scoring from a corner to double the home sides advantage.

Despite being a man to the good Palace were up against it by half-time after conceding a third goal in first half stoppage time. Florin Andone harrassed the Palace defence and a mistake gifted him a chance to slot the third goal.

Balogun brought down Wilfried Zaha in the box and Luka Milivojević slotted the penalty but the London club couldn’t add to their tally and Brighton took all three points.

Bournemouth 2-1 Huddersfield

Two goals within the first half hour were enough to bag all three points for Bournemouth against Huddersfield.

Callum Wilson fired Bournemouth ahead early on heading home a free kick from the boot of Ryan Fraser.

The roles were reversed seventeen minutes later when Wilson provided the assist for Fraser’s goal that gave Bournemouth a 2-0 lead.

A looping header from Terence Kongolo gave the defender his first goal in two years and Huddersfield Town a lifeline in the game. Neither side would score in the second half though and Eddie Howe’s team held on.

West Ham 3-1 Cardiff

West Ham found form with a 3-1 romping win over Cardiff City inspired by a Lucas Perez brace.

After a goalless first half the quick reactions of Perez allowed him to get on the end of a ball from Robert Snodgrass and slot past Neil Etheridge in the Cardiff City goal.

Perez would slide his second between Etheridge’s legs after receiving the ball from Arthur Masuaku who had found space in behind the Welsh outfit’s defence.

Michail Antonio got on the end of an excellent corner from Snodgrass to put the result beyond doubt just after the hour.

Josh Murphy’s injury time goal for Cardiff City was little more than consolation.
