Louw died in the early hours of Wednesday morning allegedly due to complications related to Covid-19.

Louw’s son, Ampie jnr, confirmed the tragic news in a Facebook post.

“I hope dad can find peace up there with my mom. I could not hope for a better dad. Until we meet again.”

Louw is credited as being among the biggest factors in Pistorius’ illustrious Paralympic career before he was convicted of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013 and subsequently jailed.

Louw coached Pistorius throughout his athletics career after convincing him to take up the sport when he picked up a rugby injury in high school.

Pistorius went on to break multiple Paralympic world records under the guidance of Louw.
