Orlando Pirates news: More players set to leave the Buccaneers

The Bucs are removing deadwood ahead of the new season.

Orlando Pirates are set to ship out more players in the next few days as the club prepares for the upcoming season.

The Buccaneers recently offloaded three first-team players in former captain, Thabo Matlaba, Bernard Morrison and Thamsanqa Sangweni. The trio was announced as new signings by Chippa United on Friday and have joined the club for the last few days of pre-season preparations.

As Sport24 reports, Pirates are set to continue trimming their squad, with more players set to be shown the door.

Players leaving the club ahead of the new season

According to the publication, club chairman Irvin Khoza revealed that Senegalese international Issa Sarr and striker Ayanda Nkosi have left the club.

The Buccaneers are also shaking things up in the goalkeeping department, following the arrival of Brilliant Khuzwayo from Kaizer Chiefs, with Jackson Mabokgwane set to join Cape Town City.

The club has already seen the departure of two players, Ayanda Gcaba and Riyaad Norodien, who both spent the second half of last season on loan with relegated Platinum Stars. The latter has recently signed for City while the former is said to be in talks with the promoted club, Highlands Park.

Orlando Pirates new signings

The Sea Robbers recently welcomed nine new players and, according to Khoza, they are still looking to bolster up the squad with one more signing, a Brazilian defender.

“We will finalise the deal before the close of the window period.”

So far in the current window, the club has signed Khuzwayo on a free transfer, Abel Mabaso, Linda Mntambo and Paseka Mako – all from Chippa – Bidvest Wits duo, Vincent Pule and Ben Motshwari Kudakwashe Mahachi from Golden Arrows, Meshack Maphangule from Black Leopards as well as Asavela Mbekile from Mamelodi Sundowns.
