Kaizer Chiefs turn their sights to cup action as they host National First Division outfit Stellenbosch FC at Mosese Mabhida Stadium in their Nedbank Cup last 16 encounter on Saturday night.

Steve Komphela’s men will look to recover from their disappointing outing in last weekend’s Soweto Derby where they went down 3-1 to bitter rivals, Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium.

The defeat left the Glamopur Boys’ league title aspirations in a bit of a shambles as they are some distance away from log leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns, but Komphela says his side have had to get over the disappointment and are now focused on the task ahead.

“The first two days are where you are trying to be more of a mental therapist… get rid of it‚ deal with it mentally‚ freshen your mind‚” he said.

“And obviously that is also based on the fact that when you do your debrief you reflect. Without feedback you can’t look forward.”

They come up against a club coached by former AmaZulu mentor, Steve Barker, currently occupying ninth place in the first division after narrowly missing out on promotion last season – falling in the play-offs.

Komphela is not without his fair share of selection headaches going into this cup clash as a few members of the first team are still either doubtful starters or unavailable.

The man who provided Chiefs’ solitary goal in the derby defeat, Leonardo Castro, is doubtful for the clash after picking up an injury, along with midfielder, George Maluleka. Bafana defender, Ramahlwe Mphahlele will also not feature due to suspension.

Starting XI

Both teams’ lineups will be announced closer to kick off.

Kick off: 20:15 (SAST).

Live stream: Supersport 4 (SS4).
