Mzansi Super League eliminator: Jozi Stars vs Paarl Rocks

It’s playoff time in the Mzansi Super League, with Jozi Stars hosting Paarl Rocks at The Wanderers on Friday.

The two sides will be slugging it out for a place in Sunday’s final against Cape Town Blitz in the final after the side from the Mother City secured direct route to the last two through finishing the round robin stage at the summit of the table.

Both teams competing on Friday will be looking to build on their emphatic performances in their last outings, where they both claimed bonus-point wins.

The Jozi Stars cemented their playoff spot, setting records tumbling on Tuesday as they put together the highest first-innings total so far in the competition, en route to its biggest winning run margin of 101 runs over neighbours, Tshwane Spartans.

This was thanks to Rassie van der Dussen’s 96 off just 44 balls, alongside a swashbuckling half-century off just 18 balls, the fastest in the tournament, before Nono Pongolo grabbed the first five-for to finish with career-best figures of 6/20.

Paarl Rocks, on the other hand, needed a bonus-point win over Nelson Mandela Bay Giants to progress without nett run-rate factoring in, and they did just that, chasing down a target of 130 inside 16 overs to grab maximum points.
