PSL action pauses momentarily once again as cup competition takes centre stage this weekend with the first leg of the MTN8 semifinals the main attraction.

The quarterfinals saw all giants of South African soccer progress to the next round, with the exception of perhaps Orlando Pirates, who fell at the first hurdle, courtesy of defending champions Supersport United.

With four remaining, the action is bound to be exciting, and all teams involved will want to draw first blood in order to grab an early initiative as the semi-finals are played out over two legs.

Cape Town City vs Mamelodi Sundowns – Cape Town Stadium

The action kicks off on Saturday with somewhat of a grudge match as Cape Town City host Mamelodi Sundowns at Cape Town Stadium.

Benni McCarthy’s men were knocked out by the Pretoria outfit in last season’s Nedbank Cup in the quarterfinal stage and will be determined to return the favour and reach their second consecutive MTN8 final.

The hosts disposed of their opponents’ fierce rivals Orlando Pirates in the quarterfinals and will be looking to make it two Soweto giants out of two as they attempt to defend their MTN8 title.
