UFC 288, headlined by the title fight between Aljamain Sterling and Henry Cejudo, will take place on Saturday, May 6, 2023 in Newark, New Jersey.

The event will mark the UFC’s ninth visit to Newark and first since August 2019.

The UFC bantamweight championship bout between current champion Sterling and former UFC flyweight and bantamweight champion Cejudo tops an impressive main card.

Cejudo was a 2008 Olympic gold medal winner in freestyle wrestling.

Also featured on the main card are fights between Belal Muhammad and Gilbert Burns (welterweight), Jessica Andrade and Yan Xiaonan (women’s strawweight), and featerweight bouts between Movsar Evloev and Diego Lopes, and Kron Gracie and Charles Jourdain.

UFC 288 weigh-in was wild

Sparks flew at the weigh-in on Friday, when Cejudo arrived on stage with pillows with faces of Sterling and other bantamweight fighters Sean O’Malley and Alexander Volkanovski – and punted them into the crowd!

Cejudo and Sterling then engaged in typical pre-fight ‘banter’ before the former let off a scream.

According to leading South African bookmakers Hollywoodbets, the fight promises to be a close affair.

Cejudo has been installed as a narrow 8/10 favourite, with Sterling on offer at 91/100.
