FNB Stadium, Johannesburg

Filling up the FNB Stadium is all fun and games until you realise it affects some of the busiest commuter routes in South Africa. The Mamelodi Sundowns vs Barcelona fixture is going to be responsible for some huge road closures.

Whatever ecstasy football fans may experience inside Soccer City, it seems like the rest of Johannesburg – particularly Nasrec – are in for prolonged periods of agony.

But we’re here to help. Well, as much as we can, anyway. We don’t have access to those flying Ubers just yet, but we do have a guide to road closures and parking information on the big day. That’s just as good, right?

Mamelodi Sundowns vs Barcelona: Road closures, parking information and peak times of traffic:

Parking at the FNB Stadium

Stadium Management CEO Jacques Grobbelaar has issued the following information about parking on Wednesday.

We need to be very clear here: You will not be allowed entry to park at the stadium if you haven’t got a parking ticket.

The official distributor for this game – Computicket – have now put parking tickets on sale. Visit this link to purchase yours ahead of the big match.

Important times for commuters to know

The game kicks off at 18:00. However, it’s possible this will be delayed due to the volume of traffic heading to the FNB Stadium at rush hour.

The game is likely to finish just before 20:00, with traffic pouring out of the stadium right up until approximately 21:30. All fans going to the match are advised to get there as early as possible, with gates opening at 14:00.
